The Speech & Drama department at Abbots Bromley School is committed to providing confidence building and good communication skills to all its students; through the power of vocal clarity, articulation, literacy, expression, creativity, developing language and personal presentation.
We use the LAMDA examination board, following all seven disciplines; Verse and Prose, Reading for Performance, Spoken English/Public Speaking, Acting, Mime, Devised Performance, and Musical Theatre. We cover the various aspects of the syllabus allowing students to work as a Group, within a Duo or as a Solo Performer. LAMDA has just celebrated their 150th anniversary and is largest and oldest examining board in the Communicating Arts. All seven of their disciplines are accredited by the QCA (Qualifications & Curriculum Authority) within the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), fulfilling many areas of the National Curriculum requirements in all key stages. UCAS points at grades 6, 7, & 8 (advanced level) are also awarded.
Studies in Speech & Drama start from Year 2 in Roch House through to the Sixth Form where students achieve not only fantastic results in their examinations, with a 99.5% pass rate, many Merits and Distinctions, but many of them also gain various awards along the way; Communication Awards, Performance Awards, and Triple Gold awards.
Great achievements are maintained by Abbots Bromley pupils, as they rise to greater challenges while learning social skills that will carry them through their years to come.
