Music is a key feature of life at Abbots Bromley. From Hallelujahs to Handbells, the whole diversity of musical experience is celebrated here.

The Prep School, Junior and Senior Choirs are open to everyone without audition; the message here really is that everyone can sing. For the brave, a short audition may bring an invitation to join Cantorini and Cantoria, two specialist vocal ensembles. Both of these choirs regularly bring our beautiful school Chapel to life. They have even participated in memorable events such as performances of Carmina Burana in the Albert Hall, ‘Classical Spectacular’ at the NIA and most recently at Westminster Abbey, opening the 200th Anniversary Celebrations of our Founder, Nathaniel Woodard.

Instrumental music is encouraged in all forms and at all ages. The Director of Music, and a team of talented peripatetic music staff enable pupils to pursue their musical interests through optional individual lessons. Pupils in the Prep School have the opportunity to try cello or violin within the curriculum and they even encounter ukuleles. Brass instruments are introduced as an activity in Senior School. Prep School Ensemble, Orchestra and Senior Ensemble keep the instrumentally talented busy. Concerts happen all year round with popular events for the whole family to enjoy, including December’s ‘Carols in the Round’, the Orchestral Concert in May and a Cabaret Evening in the summer. Informal Recitals happen whenever pupils want to perform.

Music Tours have become a very popular annual feature of school life. The list of venues in which Abbots Bromley School choirs have performed include St Peter’s, Vatican City; Notre Dame, Paris; St. Patrick’s, New York; Grace Cathedral, San Francisco; St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Malta and countless other venues in Europe and beyond.

Music at Abbots Bromley is about opportunity. Every pupil has the chance to develop his/her musical talent in whatever way and to whatever extent he/she desires. We are here to help unlock the potential.
