Dance

The Alkins School of Dance, in partnership with Abbots Bromley School has an international reputation for excellence. An exceptional opportunity to combine Vocational Dance qualifications with traditional academic studies is available under one roof. Today, more than ever before, it is imperative that pupils are able to diversify their skills. Even the most successful dancers have a relatively short career and need to be prepared to consider future paths. The Vocational Dance Course is planned to give as broad an education as possible. High standards are maintained through carefully structured timetables and enviably small class sizes. The course combines Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern Dance, Performance Skills, Drama, and Repertoire alongside core academic subjects.

The School has recently expanded and now offers a vocational course in Musical Theatre, focusing on acting, singing, dance and stage craft. Highly qualified and experienced staff include former international ballerinas and a Director of Dance with many years’ experience as an examiner with the Royal Academy of Dance.

Past students are now dancing in some of the world’s leading ballet companies. Others use their skills, in a variety of careers including dance physiotherapy, teaching and costume design. Entry onto the Vocational Dance Course is by audition and involve a Classical Ballet class and assessment papers in Maths and English. These papers will help us to place successful candidates in the correct year group and appropriate dance classes. Any student offered a place on the Vocational Dance Course is eligible to be entered for scholarship and bursaries from the Dance and Drama Charitable Trust.

International applicants may send an audition video, and via agents, arrange to sit their academic papers under approved conditions. Additional academic reports and tests in English competency will also be requested.

Recreational dance is available to all pupils from Kindergarten to VIth Form as part of the Enrichment Programme in the Prep School and in the Senior School.
