The Senior School

Abbots Bromley School is quite remarkable. Set in 50 acres of stunning grounds and adjoining beautiful countryside, Abbots Bromley was opened some 142 years ago as one of the first schools with Nathaniel Woodard’s Christian ideals of ‘Faith, Unity and Vision’ to provide an education for young people in an environment which would cultivate pride and excellence in every aspect of life. The school finds inspiration from its heritage and gives both staff and students a very special pride and a sense of identity and the Woodard motto is as relevant today as it was almost two centuries ago. Our historic buildings create an ethos and environment which is truly inspiring.

We believe ourselves to be rich in resources with a stunningly beautiful chapel, incredible facilities for Dance (studios and staff to match the very best) and Drama and a superb set of sports facilities including a beautiful pool, wonderful gymnasium and a state of the art astroturf pitch. Also, hidden in our grounds is an Equestrian Centre housing ponies and horses belonging both to our students as well as liveried to staff and local people that may be enjoyed by members of our community. We are fortunate indeed.

Our mission is to inspire excellence and fulfil potential and our vision is three fold:

1. To be parents’ first choice school.

2. To be a centre of academic excellence where every member of the Abbots Bromley community feels valued, and

3. To be more than simply a school; more ‘a way of life’

We aim for all students to be nurtured as uniquely talented individuals, finding fulfilment through their learning and the development of their intellectual, creative, physical and emotional capabilities and in this regard we welcome applications for anyone wishing to subscribe to this ethos. Should you wish to visit our splendid school, please do not feel that you need to wait to be invited to an Open Event, as every day is open day at Abbots Bromley. Indeed members of the student body, staff or myself would be happy to show you around. We are so very proud of what is on offer here.

We believe it is important for our students to develop the moral integrity to become responsible global citizens, so that they may take their place in society with confidence. We are confident that anyone associated with the Abbots Bromley learning community, pupil, student or adult, will leave the richer for their experience.

I am often asked who are our students and how do they learn? The answer is simple. We accept girls and boys (of all or no faith and all abilities) into our Kindergarten and Preparatory School, where they are nurtured and flourish and we accept girls into our Upper School (age 11-16) who are keen to learn, motivated to engage in both academic study and extra curricular activities and interested in learning about the world beyond the school. Our sixth form is co-educational, giving boys and girls (age 16 -18) the opportunities to access courses which give them a superb education. Young people are taught in small classes, with a personalised learning agenda and any who need additional support with either language or learning skills (including those who are Gifted and Able) are our focus. Within AB International we provide courses for overseas students wishing to improve their English whilst enjoying all that an English Boarding School can offer. From September 2017 we are delighted to be admitting boys into Year 7 and the school will be fully co-educational by September 2020.

For the last twenty years, I have been leading schools, both faith and Academies in the maintained sector, including Britain’s largest and possibly most successful maintained boarding school Wymondham College. It is therefore my very great privilege now to lead this fine school with personable, articulate, diligent students who were described in a recent inspection as ‘exemplary’ and one of the finest staff teams I have had the opportunity to work with.
