The Guild was formed in 1884 and is the Association (Alumni) for the former pupils and staff of Abbots Bromley School (formally the School of S Mary and S Anne).
Originally the aims of the Guild were to help with the upkeep of S Anne's Chapel and to keep former students and staff in touch with each other and the school. Reunions and social events continue to be hosted all over the UK and abroad, providing a lifetime of friendship and a worldwide network of contacts. The Guild is divided into Circles which are named alphabetically. We usually have 3-4 year groups within each Circle - the aim being that students are grouped with people they will remember from school.
In 1979 the Guild achieved charitable status. The aims of the Guild widened and other funds were established. Today the Guild operates five funds: a General Fund, Charitable Fund, Chapel Fund, Education Fund and Pastoral Fund. These funds enable the Guild to provide financial assistance to members in difficult times, support the upkeep of S Anne’s Chapel and to provide scholarships and bursaries to students in school.
In recent years the Guild has funded new heating and lighting for S Anne's Chapel and is also funding a number of scholarships, which has allowed gifted students to benefit from an education at the school. This support has raised the profile of the Guild. We also have a full-time member of staff based in school (June Cairns-Smith, Guild Development Manager) who will be happy to welcome any Guild members who wish to visit school.
Donations to the Guild Funds can be sent directly to our Treasurer (cheques to be made payable to The Guild of S Mary and S Anne), paid directly into our bank account, by bankers' order or online via the Charities Aid Foundation or MyDonate websites (search for the Guild of S Mary and S Anne). All donations, large or small, are welcome. To continue with our Guild Scholarship programme, we are seeking to raise £50,000 from members annually!
