South African Schools Project

The Reverend Canon Bill Weaver, formerly Provost of Woodard Schools, initially raised a few hundred pounds to buy basic educational supplies for  a small number of schools in South Africa after a visit to friends who live in Jeffery’s Bay in the Eastern Cape. From these small beginnings a registered charity has been formed which provides continuing support for children from impoverished backgrounds.

Mrs Ann Johnson, Head of ABIC and Mr Geoff Johnson, a teacher of Mathematics at AB, both became involved with the charity and are now trustees. This has led to the charity offering AB students the opportunity for a “Mini-Gap Experience”, spending two weeks in South Africa working in the schools as well as enjoying the cultural experiences of the Rainbow Nation. In October 2016 the 9th and 10th students embarked on the fifth mini-gap experience which is a truly unique and life-changing opportunity.
